Farofa ("Farofa")

 

"Farofa" is a typical Brazilian dish made of toasted manioc flour (farinha de mandioca torrada).  It's usually served as a side dish along with "feijoada" or grilled meat.

Ingredientes: Ingredients:
2-3 colheres de sopa de óleo ou manteiga 2-3 tablespoons of oil or butter
1 cebola picada 1 chopped onion
250 gr. de toicinho defumado (bacon) picado 250 g. of chopped bacon
1 pacote de farinha de mandioca torrada (500 gr.) 1 package of toasted manioc flour (500 g)
salsinha e cebolinha picada chopped parsley and spring onion
sal e pimenta-do-reino a gosto salt and ground black pepper to taste
Modo de fazer: Preparation:
1. Frite a cebola e o bacon em óleo quente. 1. Sauté the onion and bacon in hot oil.
2. Adicione a farinha aos poucos, todos os temperos e mexa bem. 2. Add the flour bit by bit, all the seasonings and stir-fry well.
3. Coloque a farofa numa travessa e sirva.  3. Put the "farofa" on a plate and serve it.

Remarks:

  • You can find toasted manioc flour (farinha de mandioca torrada) in Brazilian supermarkets and grocery stores.

  • You can find ready-to-eat-farofa (farofa pronta) in Brazilian supermarkets and grocery stores. It's very practical and convenient for those people who don't have time or don't like cooking.
